History

Avon's story is rooted in the Wiltshire town of Melksham, where the Avon Rubber Company turned to tyre making in the early 1900s; the brand dates its tyre heritage to 1904. Motorcycle tyres followed in 1911, and over the decades Avon earned a strong reputation in road racing, sidecar racing and classic motorsport. In 1997 the tyre business was sold to the American Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, which in turn became part of Goodyear in 2021. Production at the historic Melksham plant ended in 2023, and Avon motorcycle tyres are now made in France.

Today's Avon motorcycle range is focused on the road. The Spirit ST is a sport-touring tyre and the 3D Supersport targets sporty road riding, while the Trekrider serves adventure and trail bikes. Cruisers and heavyweight tourers are covered by the Cobra Chrome, including a trike version, and the brand remains a favourite with classic owners thanks to the Roadrider MKII, Speedmaster MKII and Safety Mileage MKII patterns.
