History

Mitas was founded in Prague in 1933 as a Czech subsidiary of Michelin, making tyres for cars, bicycles and motorcycles. After decades under state ownership the business was privatised in the 1990s and became part of the ČGS group, with production in Prague, Zlín and Otrokovice. In 2016 Sweden's Trelleborg acquired ČGS and folded Mitas into Trelleborg Wheel Systems, and in 2023 that division was bought by Yokohama Rubber, so Mitas now belongs to Yokohama TWS. Its motorcycle tyres are made in the Czech Republic and, since 2022, also at a new plant in India.

Mitas is particularly strong off-road. The Terra Force-MX and MC series cover motocross, the Terra Force-EX family serves enduro and extreme terrain, and the long-running E-07 and E-09 remain popular choices for adventure and trail riding alongside the Terra Force-R. On the road, the Sport Force+ line targets sporty riders, the Touring Force handles touring and sport-touring, and the Custom Force fits cruisers and classics. Scooter tyres, tubes and mousse inserts round off the range.
